The TerraLID Summer School will be held from October 5th to 9th, 2026 at the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum (German Mining Museum Bochum, Germany). International leading experts will offer a comprehensive introduction into the analysis, processing, and management of lead isotope data and how they help us to better understand past human societies through lectures and discussions. Participants have the opportunity to work in groups guided by the instructors on their own or prepared datasets.

Participation

The Summer School is limited to 30 participants. In case registrations exceed available spots, priority will be given to participants from countries underrepresented in the lead isotope community and to early career researchers.

Participation is free of charge. Lunches and coffee breaks will be provided.

Travel Awards

The summer school offers 10 travel awards of 500 € each. Applicants must provide a CV and a motivational statement about how the Summer School contributes to the overall (intended) research of the participants. The selection process will prioritise applicants from countries listed as low- and low-middle income economies by the Worldbank.

How to get to the venue

The workshop is hosted at the Haus der Archäologien, Am Bergbaumuseum 31, 44791 Bochum, Germany (see location on GoogleMaps or OpenStreetMap).

Travelling to Bochum

Airports close to Bochum are Düsseldorf (DUS), Köln-Bonn (CGN) and Dortmund (DTM). Many regional and long-distance train lines are calling at Bochum Central Station. The webpage of the Deutsche Bahn bahn.de and their app DB Navigator provide a convenient way to search for train connections to/from Bochum. Bochum is also well-connected by long-distance buses operated by FlixBus.

Getting to the venue

By public transport

The closest stop to the venue is “Deutsches Bergbaumuseum” served by the metro line U35. From Bochum Central Station, take the U35 heading to “Herne Strünkede” or “Riemke Markt” for two stops. Please look for additional connections within Bochum on vrr.de, bahn.de or use the DB Navigator.

By car

Bochum is served by several motorways and we kindly ask you to use the trip planner or navigation service of your choice to find the best route for you. Please note that the venue does not offer parking space for participants. If you are a person with reduced mobility, please reach out to us and we will arrange access to the staff parking area for you.

Participants of the Summer School agree to conduct themselves in a professional and appropriate manner and to ensure that all can enjoy a harassment-free event. The workshop organisers are dedicated to maintaining an inclusive, respectful, safe, friendly, and welcoming environment for all participants.

We do not tolerate disruptive or disrespectful behaviour, personal messages, images, or interactions by any participant, in any form, at any aspect of the program including business and social activities.

Photography, video, recording or screen-captures of session content or presentations in any format are prohibited unless this right is granted on the slides of the respective presentation. We encourage everyone to assist in creating a welcoming and safe environment.

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the event organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender and/or expulsion from the event. If you are being harassed, if you notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact one of the organisers immediately.
